Hi, I’m Nathan (he/they).
I’m an independent midwife based in Hastings, East Sussex with over 13 years experience, many of which I've spent supporting families across Eastbourne, Hastings, and the surrounding areas. Much of my career has been spent in community midwifery, including six years providing continuity of care and home birth support.
Over the years, I’ve attended births in many different settings; at home, in birth centres, and in hospital. I’ve even supported a birth in a caravan, in a field, in heavy snow! Wherever and however you choose to welcome your baby I will be there with a soft smile, gentle hands, and steady, experienced support.
My work is rooted in supporting informed choice, autonomy, and truly individualised care. I have extensive experience caring for families whose decisions may sit outside standard guidance, including those choosing home birth with some medical factors, declining or delaying induction of labour, or making personalised choices throughout pregnancy, birth, and the postnatal period.
I specialise in deep listening and collaborative care planning. Together, we take the time to explore your values, your circumstances, the full range of options available to you, and the most up-to-date evidence and research. From this, we create a plan that feels aligned, safe, and right for you and your family. I honour every decision without judgement and bring both my clinical expertise and full presence to your care.
Midwifery has been part of me for as long as I can remember. As a child, I held a newborn only hours old and felt an overwhelming sense of joy, and that feeling has never left me. Midwifery feels like it is in my bones.
I believe the very best midwifery care comes from a balance of evidence-based up to date knowledge and skills, the instinctive and intuitive art of midwifery, and gentle, honest, unhurried communication.
Alongside my clinical practice, I integrate a range of supportive and holistic techniques into my care. These include meditation and breathing practices, hypnotherapy and aromatherapy, tarot and animal cards, and ceremonies to honour pregnancy, birth, and the postnatal period. I also bring practical skills such as optimal fetal positioning, rebozo techniques, and cord ties to support physiological birth and comfort.
My practice is grounded in a strong commitment to human rights. I have undertaken advanced training with Birthrights UK and support families to understand their rights, navigate healthcare systems, and feel confident in their choices. I will walk alongside you, whether your journey is straightforward or complex, offering clear information, compassionate support, and, when needed, strong and respectful advocacy.
I obtained my midwifery degree with honours from Hertfordshire University. I am registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and hold additional qualifications including Newborn and Infant Physical Examination (NIPE). I have completed further training in complications during home birth and emergency skills in collaboration with the University of Sussex and South East Coast Ambulance Service, strengthening my ability to provide safe, autonomous care and work collaboratively with other services when needed.
I am also part of professional networks such as the Royal College of Nursing and Zest Midwives Limited that support ongoing development, peer support, and high standards of independent midwifery care. They also support access to professional indemnity insurance so I can work as a private midwife.

I am deeply committed to inclusive, anti-racist, and culturally safe midwifery practice. I have undertaken additional training in anti-racism in midwifery with the University of Sussex and completed cultural safety training with Abuela Doulas. I am part of their wider activist community working to reduce disparities in perinatal care. I have had the privilege of supporting families from a wide range of cultural and religious backgrounds, and I honour and celebrate this diversity within my work. I am also experienced in working confidently with interpretation services and translated resources.
I am a queer, trans parent of two and part of a neurodivergent family. My lived experience deeply informs my work and my passion for providing inclusive, identity affirming care, particularly for those who may feel marginalised or “othered” within traditional care systems.
As a parent, I chose home birth for both of my children, following my own intuition even when it differed from medical recommendations. That experience shapes how I support others to make confident, informed, and deeply aligned decisions for themselves.
I also bring extensive knowledge and lived experience in attachment-focused parenting, including breast/chestfeeding, baby-wearing, bed-sharing, long-term breast/chestfeeding and baby-led weaning. For me, these practices are about nurturing connection, instincts, bodybrain health and joyful, thriving families.
It is a privilege to walk alongside families during such a transformative time. I approach my work with care, reverence, and deep respect for your unique journey.
You deserve care that feels safe, honest, nurturing and truly yours, and I am here to help you create that.
